berm (verge)

2008
90*75cm l C print l 1/3

It is night or early morning. A man is waiting for something or somebody. But he is not alone. Slowly, the viewer will be able to identify more and more people. However the people in the back tend to dissolve in the darkness and its surrounding landscape. As a viewer in the dimmed lit space you become one with the group that is standing on the verge.

The verge is a grass border along a road due to protect private property, bikers and pedestrians. Its dimensions are determined by law and have a maximum width of 1m50. It is no man’s land.
